Description

Stretching approximately 3.5 miles from the city of San Luis Obispo to Avila Beach, the Bob Jones Bike Trail follows a former railway corridor, providing a flat and easily accessible route.

The trail is named after Bob Jones, a local environmental advocate who played a significant role in preserving the land for public use. The trailhead is near the intersection of Ontario Road and Prado Road in San Luis Obispo, with ample parking available for trail users.

From there, you can get going, passing through residential neighborhoods, agricultural fields, and natural habitats as you roll along the trail. As you ride along the Bob Jones Bike Trail, you'll get some stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including rolling hills, gorgeous woodlands, and glimpses of the Pacific Ocean in the distance.

Interpretive signs along the trail provide insights into the area's natural and cultural history, highlighting points of interest and local landmarks. The most famous landmark on the Bob Jones Bike Trail is the scenic Avila Valley Bridge, which spans over San Luis Obispo Creek and offers sweeping views of the surrounding countryside.

The trail ends at Avila Beach, a charming coastal community which is home to some seaside restaurants.

Grab a bite to eat and then roll back to the parking lot.
