Description

The French Alps are famed for offering a high drama, spectacular landscape in a mountainous environment.

One of the best places in the world to ride your bike! The winter ski resorts of Tignes and Val d’Isere, in the heart of the French Alps, have teamed up to produce an incredible and expanding summer bike park across both areas.

The Bike Park offers everything expected across 35+ trails (downhill, all mountain, and XC) ranging from very easy to elite.

This bike park isn't as well known as other bike parks in the Alps, but this creates quieter and less blown-out trails for your delight.

The lift pass allows access to both areas, and although many trails can be covered in a day, it is worth spending a couple of days to get the best out of the park. Bike Park Tignes & Val d’Isere is home to the Very Bike Trip (VBT): the hardest all-mountain trail in the area.

This trail is intended for very good riders only! The trail delivers a thrilling 6.5km ride of fun, yet super-challenging singletrack.

Along with the VBT, you're guaranteed to ride some other trails in the bike park, as they're needed to access the start, and possibly the return from, the VBT. The VBT starts from the highest point of the Park at 2,800m altitude at the top of the Borsat chairlift.

The route taken to get to the top of the lift will depend on from where you start—either Tignes or Val d’Isere.

We recommend using the latest version of the Bike Park Map to plan your route to the Borsat lift. From the Borsat lift, VBT initially follows the Blue Lagoon trail with bike park style berms and a wooden jump (with a ride-round option) until the second way-marker indicates VBT off right.

From here, the route is very easy to follow.

Expect beautiful, flowy, open meadow singletrack before the trail becomes more serious.

The trail skirts the left side of a very steep valley with some steep and tight, techy switchbacks, and some large boulders.

Concentration is paramount here as the consequence is high if things go wrong.

This is the primary reason the trail is labeled "Expert." Get prepared for a little bit of uphill pedaling, then the final descent into Val d’Isere under the Olympique lift.

The trail is at its steepest on this final section.

Keeping your speed controlled over the loose shale will prevent overshooting the last few switchbacks. The trail ends in Val d’Isere.

If you didn't start here, you'll have to route back to your original starting point.

You can return to Tignes via the Olympique and Borsat lifts followed by several different grade trail options. The Bike Park and lifts are open for the short summer period of July and August. Source: https://en.tignes.net/what-to-see-do/do-something/summer/bike-park-tignes/infos for Bike Park info.
