Description

Presented by [Gemini Adventures](https://geminiadventures.com/), the Desert RATS Kokopelli 150 is possibly the most epic adventure race in the west.

As the longest-running stage race in North America, this week-long adventure is designed to test both mental and physical limits of even the most seasoned athletes. After a much-anticipated day off on Friday, Stage 5 begins at 8am on Saturday along the northern slopes of the La Sal Mountains.

This 26-mile leg includes 3,200' of elevation gain and ends at the world-famous Slickrock Trail Parking Lot near Moab. Following an early morning breakfast, the course begins with a long, steady ~6.5 mile climb on pavement from the base camp.

After reaching the high point, only one major climb lies ahead.

Otherwise, the remainder of the course entirely downhill. Stage 5 offers some of the most epic views of the entire course, showcasing the beauty of both the La Sal Mountains and Fisher Valley to the east.

A world-famous mountain bike trail route, The Whole Enchilada, even passes through this part of the route along the edge of Porcupine Rim. With a final course cutoff of 4pm, racers are given a few hours to clean up before attending the after-party at 7pm.

Top racers in each category are awarded unique prices, plus all finishers receive awards of their own.

Those who finish under 30 hours head home with an additional gift commemorating their impressive finish time. Per the official race guide for 2019, aid is available in the following intervals. 6.3mi – La Sal Aid Station 9.8mi – Water Only 15.0mi – Porcupine Rim #1 Aid Station 19.5mi – Porcupine Rim #2 Aid Station 26.0mi – Slickrock Trailhead (Stage 5 Finish) Source: https://geminiadventures.com/desert-rats/
