Description

Stroll around This stage had to be cancelled in 2017 due to cold, wind and heavy rain at the Umbrail Pass.

It is time to try again! This detour to Graubünden in Switzerland is a feast for the eyes.

The route goes straight up to the Umbrail Pass with views of the Ortler and the Stilfser Joch, than down into the pretty Münstertal valley.

Further on through the Swiss National Park over the Ofen Pass to Zernez.

At this point only half the distance - but the greatest struggle has been managed.

From Zernez to the Bernina Pass, a moderate ascent of 900 metres in altitude over 47 kilometres awaits.

So everyone can enjoy the nature, when Piz Palü and Piz Bernina, with 4049 metres the highest summit of the Eastern Alps, build up to the right of the road.

After the Bernina Pass, only a short ascent to Forcola di Livigno and a straight, rapid descent to the finish follow.

This is probably the most beautiful stage of the 2019 Transalp - not easy of course, but this route is worth every winding metre.
