Description

The pristine Timberline singletrack system has over 9 miles of immaculately-groomed trail, all located just behind Leadville's Colorado Mountain College campus.

The location has the advantages of being as mellow as 10,000-foot terrain can possibly be, is all shaded to preserve the ample amounts of white-gold that falls on Leadville, and it intersects with the groomed 12-mile Mineral Belt trail.

That adds up to a possible 21 miles of groomed fat biking without repeating anything.

No wonder Leadville is home to so many hardcore endurance athletes! The best way to enter the trail system is via the “Boulders Trail” which climbs steadily, but kindly.

Along the ascent of “Boulders”, take the first right turn onto “Candyland” for a short dash of fun, including a nice little whoop-de-doo before returning to Boulders. The Timberline trail system is comprised of many segments and loops and is well-signed at every intersection.

No worries if you miss a turn—everything is short enough and fun enough that it doesn't hurt to go back for a re-do.

The design allows for rides of absolutely any length from super-short for kiddos and newbies, or as long as you want by doing laps and/or out-and-backs. One trail that's well0worth riding in both directions is “Slip 'n' Slide.” This segment climbs sweetly and descends like a roller coaster with its groomed-in banked curves. The “Swoop Trail” moniker really speaks for itself; be prepared for a fast, tight trip through the trees. If you have a fat bike, you really need to ride Leadville's groomed Timberline singletrack.

If you don't have a fat bike, borrow one or rent one...

this trail system is a great place to find out how much fun it is to fat bike on snow!
