Description

Regardless of whether you are thru-hiking the Teton Crest Trail or not, the trek to Static Peak is a must-do.

Making it to Static Peak Divide and then to the summit of Static Peak provides outstanding views of the Teton Range! This journey promises to be a highlight of the entire Teton Crest Trail.

The route has multiple starting points.

One can access the Divide from either the Teton Crest Trail or from the Death Canyon trailhead.

This description focuses on the Teton Crest side.

The route begins from Alaska Basin, which is a great camping spot along the Teton Crest Trail.

Since the trail begins from the backcountry, this route has fewer people than other popular day hikes in the park, which is a plus. You'll enjoy open views from the onset! Right as you leave Alaska Basin you are treated to 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains and alpine meadows.

There are multiple streams along the way, allowing easy access to water as well as providing a sense of tranquility.

Take your time through this section, as it is a gentle climb and the scenery takes your breath away.

The next section features the bulk of the elevation gain.

As you near the Divide, the views become exceptional.

Jackson Hole now looms in the distance.

Alpine lakes dot the setting and the impressive Buck Mountain appears above. Reaching the Divide brings a great sense of accomplishment.

The reward is one of the finest views in the Teton Range! If you have the endurance, scramble up the summit of Static Peak.

The views get even better as you are able to get a view of the Grand Teton from the summit.

Seeing the Grand pop up behind Static Peak will give you goosebumps.

From here, take in the views and retrace your steps back to the Divide.

Note, it may be very windy up at the summit.

Then descend back to Alaska Basin along the Teton Crest.

Overall, if you are backpacking the Teton Crest, do your best to fit in a side trip to Static Peak as you will not be disappointed!
