Description

The trek to Static Peak rivals any other hike for the title of "Best Day Hike in the Tetons." Making it to Static Peak Divide and then to the summit of Static Peak provides outstanding views of the Teton Range! The route has multiple starting points.

One can access the route from either the Teton Crest Trail or from the Death Canyon trailhead.

This description focuses on the Death Canyon side.

Most hikers will access this route from Death Canyon given that the trailhead is in the frontcountry, while the Teton Crest Trail is in the backcountry. Starting from Death Canyon means you have over 5,000 feet of elevation gain ahead, so be ready! The views make each uphill step worth it—the Static Peak Divide and summit are both incredible.

The variety of landscapes is another plus: you begin in pine forest and end high up in the alpine.

Wildflowers abound, too! The ascent features views of Phelps Lake and Jackson Hole.

Arriving into Death Canyon is also a captivating experience.

As you near the Divide, the views become exceptional.

Jackson Hole now looms in the distance.

Alpine lakes dot the setting and the impressive Buck Mountain appears above.

Reaching the Divide brings a great sense of accomplishment.

The reward for this strenuous hike is one of the finest views in the Teton Range.

If you have the endurance, scramble up the summit of Static Peak.

The views get even better as you are able to get a view of the Grand Teton from the summit.

Seeing the Grand pop up behind Static Peak will give you goosebumps.

From here, take in the views and retrace your steps back to the Divide.

Note, it may be very windy up at the summit.

Then descend to the Death Canyon trailhead. If you are in the Tetons, you should make the time for the ascent of Static Peak Divide and Static Peak.

You will most certainly not be disappointed.

Despite being a long and challenging day hike, the overall experience is superb!
