Description

The Alpspitze unmistakably shapes the face of Garmisch.

The pyramid-like peaks challenge their climbers at any time of the year - whether on the climbing routes on the north side, the via ferrata or the steep normal route in summer or winter.

We have chosen the most challenging route through the north face in winter.

Already the evening before we climb up to the mountain station of the Osterfelderbahn.

The night is clear and only moderately cold as we put on our crampons and climb the steep flanks.

The atmosphere is sensational.

Deep below us the lights of Garmisch, above us the cloudless sky full of stars.

We ram pickaxes and crampons into the icy snow, fight our way meter by meter towards the summit.

As we fall into each other's arms at the summit cross, even the snow in the north face is already whitened.

The initial self-doubt whether we can drive the 50° wall completely is forgotten after the first hesitant turns.

Mistakes have a very high price in the north face, which we don't have to pay thanks to full concentration.

The last skimeters are pure pleasure before we carry the skis downhill. Touring equipment, pickaxes, crampons, emergency equipment (LVS, probe, shovel)
