Description

I call Breikågen the "smallest big mountain in Norway".; it's only 683 m high, but each meter can pure skiing pleasure.

The normal route (ascent route here) is a popular relatively easy tour, but it can be scoured in the upper parts, so people often choose to turn around at 550-650m.

The large east-facing couloir is an attractive alternative for experienced skiers with solid snow-assessment skills.

The couloir offers outstanding 35-40 degrees skiing from just below the summit, and then leads to wider slopes leading right to the sea.

These slopes are east-facing, and hold the snow longer than any other area in the region - word! The main hazard to manage is wind-slab in the start of the couloir, but the steepness by itself requires well-developed avalanche/snow assessment skills.

If it goes, it is among the best runs in the area.
