FATMAP difficulty grade
An easy ascent from the car park at Preiner Gscheid over a former ski slope and over panoramic alpine meadows to the beautifully situated Waxriegelhaus.
The descent can also be done by toboggan. A real backpack pack makes a lot of things easier: pack heavy things first.
The drinking bottle (ideal: 1 litre or more, in winter thermos flask) should always be within easy reach.
All things that are often needed such as sunglasses, camera, mobile phone or hiking map belong on top, emergency equipment including blister plasters belongs in every backpack and an outfit according to the "onion system" is always recommended! Never forget your rain cover, hood and gloves on alpine tours! In winter on ski tours and snowshoe hikes, appropriate safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, avalanche shovel and probe) is mandatory! Always call up the avalanche situation report before the tour (www.lawine-steiermark.at).Avalanche beacons, avalanche shovels and probes can be borrowed from the nature park office for a small fee.
