Description

Starting and finishing at the Olympiapark UBahn station, this loops combines nature, amazing architecture and fascinating history.

For just one run, that's a pretty good list! There are no technical difficulties and the paths are good all the way along the route. Begin by running west-southwest from the station and then swing south and cross the wide bridge which leads to the Olympia Stadium.

The architecture of the stadium is utterly unique and has to be seen to be believed.

Continue south past the stadium and then run past the Großer Olympiasee and complete a loop around and then over the Olympiaberg peak.

Descend from this and then run around the stadium once more, cross back over the bridge and head into the northern section of the park.

Do a loop of the park and then drift into the buildings and apartment blocks to the east. These apartment blocks were the accommodation for the athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics and were the scene of the dramatic and tragic hostage situation that unfolded at those games.

Nowadays they house students, as do the terraced house to the south of the bigger apartment blocks, and the students have covered much of the area with thought provoking (and occasionally quite amusing) graffiti.

Once you're done exploring the graffiti covered walls, head back to the station and catch the UBahn back into Munich city centre to replace the calories you burned on your run!
