Description

Easily accessible from Munich city centre, this is a straightforward hike suitable for the whole family.

The start and end points are reached using public transport so you don't need a car to do this hike and there are also several points along the way where you can opt out and easily return to the start. Begin by catching the train to the beautiful Bavarian town of Starnberg.

Grab a coffee in the traditional town square and head south and then east to reach the shore of Lake Stranberg. Follow a coastal path as it swings around to the south and traverses through some charming parks.

Keep on the path as it passes in and out of the trees.

At times the path is a track and at other times it is a tarmac road but even when it's a road it's still scenic and peaceful.

There are some staggeringly huge and expensive-looking houses on the road sections so set aside some time to stare longingly at these! Also en route are some excellent children's playgrounds so if the kids are getting a little bored of walking, pull over for a go on the swings and slides.

If the adults are getting a little tired of walking there are also a series of beautiful waterfront hotels which are ideal spots to stop for a drink. The line drawn here goes all the way to the village of Ammerland but if you don't want to go all the way there, it's also possible to bail out at the villages of Berg and Leoni.

Whichever of the 3 villages you finish in there is a ferry that will take you back to Starnberg via a very scenic ride.
