Description

The Tegernsee is one of the smaller Bavarian lakes but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in beauty.

Being compact means that wherever you are on the lake shore, you can see virtually every other part of the shore. This hike takes you not only to the lake shore but also into the gorgeous forests and fields to the east of the lake.

It is always on good paths or roads but there are a few roots and small obstacles about so only those with an off road pushchair should consider pushing the kids along this one! If you've got the right equipment and fitness, it's perfectly possible to push the kids but it's not always a perfectly smooth ride. Start the day by taking the ferry from the little village of Seeglas south to the capital of the lake, Tegernsee.

The village is lovely but can be quite full of tourists so after a quick look around, hike eastwards uphill to reach the path called the Hohenweg.

Follow the path as it undulates through the trees and leads you to the hamlet of Unterbuchberg.

From here on the route is on roads as you pass through the village and then carry on to the villages of Oberbuchberg, Berg, Gasse and then finally Gmund am Tegernsee at the northern end of the lake.

Finish the day by strolling back along the lake shore to Seeglas.

There's a superb playground at Seeglas so if the kids have been well behaved then you can reward them with an hour on the zipline!
