Description

Deer Leap Rock is the must-do short hike between Killington and Pico Mountain Resorts.

The overlook offers views of both mountains and is a great spot to enjoy a snack with a view.

Though Killington is renowned as the "Beast of the East" in the ski world, summertime offers an array of hiking opportunities, the ski town doubling as a trail town for thru-hikers on both the Appalachian and Long Trails.

If you only have time for one hike, this should top the list. This hike begins alongside the [Inn at Long Trail](http://www.innatlongtrail.com/).

A large parking area is located across the street.

In addition to several rooms, the Inn serves traditional pub food, hosts live music, and pours "Vermont's Best Guinness on Tap," according to their website.

Their rooms are also pet-friendly with prior approval. As mapped, this is the most direct route to the overlook at Deer Leap Rock.

Though the Deer Leap Trail can form a loop with the Appalachian Trail, few choose that option.

From the eastern edge of the Inn's parking lot, follow Sherburne Pass Trail north to the Long Trail, then keep left.

The Deer Leap Trail to the overlook will be shortly after on your left.

To reach the overlook, the hike is less than 1 mile long and shy of 600' of climbing.

For a longer hike or trail run that includes Deer Leap Rock, check out the [Sherburne Pass Loop](https://fatmap.com/routeid/80683/Sherburne_Pass_Loop/@35.5825,-82.6115,0,0,0,0,normal).

Nearly 10 miles in length, this loop pairs the AT/LT with Sherburne Pass Trail for an exhilarating backcountry experience with stunning views at the top of Pico Peak. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killington_Ski_Resort
