This double loop ride could easily be broken into two rides of shorter lengths, but when pedaled together, the Knebal Springs and 8-Mile trails combine into a respectable 15-mile mountain bike ride with a little over 2,800 feet of climbing. These loops can be ridden in either direction, although some locals recommend Knebal Springs counter-clockwise and 8-Mile clockwise.
"Both loops have fast, flowy, XC-type descents, are devoid of any overwhelmingly-technical sections, and although there’s plenty of climbing, all of it is gradual, making for a perfect intermediate-type ride,” writes local mountain biker [Chris Daniels](https://www.singletracks.com/mtb-trails/the-hood-report-intro-to-the-44-trails-report-on-knebal-springs-and-8-mile/). While much of the singletrack is hidden in the deep, dark Oregon forest, occasional clearings provide stunning views of the region! When you reach a clearing, you’ll realize how far out in the middle of nowhere you actually are.
This ride is located in a network known as the 44 Trails, which is higher in the mountains and more remote than most of the other trails in Hood River.
Consequently, these trails generally open later in the summer, as it takes the snow longer to melt, and it’s also common for downed trees and other winter damage to further delay trail opening.
