This is a great little track which is relatively brief compared to the Chamonix and Argentière routes but nonetheless provides a lovely journey through peaceful woods. You can start anywhere on the shore of the Lac des Chavant lake and from here, follow the track past the Les Houches Tennis Club courts and into woods.
Where the track splits go right and descend down to the lowest point of the loop and then swing south and climb out of the woods before continuing back to the lake. Although the motorway that accesses the Chamonix Valley is close by you wouldn't know it; this track is wonderfully peaceful and feels a long way from the hustle and bustle of roads, ski areas and villages.
The route is not always well groomed and after fresh snowfall it can feel more like a ski tour than cross country ski track, which only adds to the serenity. Access is free and the route is rarely busy.
