Description

This snowshoe itinerary is of a medium difficulty and should take a party of average fitness roughly two hours.

It makes for an excellent roundtrip through a quiet and secluded forest.

The loop takes in 200 meters of vertical gain and loss.

Starting from the parking in the hamlet of Le Couteray take the Loriaz forest track to Les Granges and follow the sign for Les Granges Nord.

At an old sheep fold descend back left in the direction of Le Lay-Le Couteray.

The forests you pass through on this route are wonderfully peaceful and it can be hard at times to remember that the bustle and noise of the main Chamonix valley are close by. For those wanting to extend this trip significantly, it is possible to carry on up to the Chalets de Loriaz and descending from there but this option more than doubles the length of the trip.
