Description

Starting in the little village of Le Nant this loop begins by climbing up and out of the village to the impressive Taconnaz avalanche barriers.

These have been beefed up considerably in recent years and seeing them is a sobering reminder of how dangerous this place can be in the winter.

From the barriers follow a good track as it climbs steeply up to the Chalet du Glacier des Bossons, a stunningly situated cafe which feels as if it is hanging over the Glacier itself. Having had a little drink (if your horse doesn't mind waiting!) head back down the track and either reverse the route back to Le Nant or (as the line here shows) descend into Les Bossons village and follow the road through the hamlet of Les Granges back to the parking area. One thing to bear in mind is that the final few minutes of the trip to the Chalet du Glacier des Bossons is popular with hikers, so if your horse can be spooked or is slightly jumpy, it might be worth avoiding this short stretch of the route.
