Wonderful panoramic hike from Königssee in the Berchtesgaden National Park along the wild waters of the Königsseeache to Berchtesgaden. From there you pass the Berchtesgaden salt mine, climb up to the foothills of the Rossfeld and finally cross the German-Austrian border to the cosy spa town of Bad Dürrnberg, which is the most important site of Celtic graves and settlement traces in Central Europe and in which salt has been mined since the 5th century BC.

Description

The tenth stage of the SalzAlpenSteig leads us from Königssee at the foot of the Watzmann (one of the lakes with the best water quality in Germany!) through the lively town of Schönau am Königssee to Berchtesgaden along lonely paths along the Königsseeache.

On the paths of the historical salt mining we go on the hill east of Berchtesgaden in the direction of the salt mine Berchtesgaden (the oldest still active salt mine in Europe) while we avoid the hustle and bustle of the city on romantic forest paths and still get a wonderful panorama of the city and its surrounding mountain massifs again and again.

After a strenuous mountain stage, we hike over the foothills of the Rossfeld and along small hilltop settlements back downhill into the Bad Dürrnberg, crossed by Celtic tombs, where salt from the so-called Haselgebirge was already mined in prehistoric times.

Even today, the salt mine and the Celtic Museum in the middle of the village bear witness to the former salt mining in Bad Dürrnberg.

Decorated by a pilgrimage church made of red marble ("Unsere lieben Frau Maria Himmelfahrt") and a grandiose view of Hallein as well as the legendary Barmsteine, the place with its cosy atmosphere invites you to stay! equipment Be sure to take a flashlight with you on your hike along the Stollenweg!
