Description

The Wimbachtal offers us an incomparable nature experience.

While the parallel valley filled up with the Königssee, an impressive stream of debris developed here.

The dolomite rocks of the Watzmann and Hochkalter massifs weather to form the so-called Gries, i.e.

rock fragments that cover the valley floor in a thick layer.

Like an inclined plane, the Gries lies between the bounding rock faces.

When snow melts and heavy rain falls, watercourses form on the surface that slowly transport the rock down into the valley.

On the banks, pioneer plants begin to conquer the habitat, however mostly only temporarily.

After we have passed the worth seeing gorge at the valley entrance, the path now leads moderately steep, but continuously ascending past the Wimbach Castle, formerly a hunting lodge of the Bavarian kings, to the Wimbachgrieshütte.

A total of 700 metres of altitude difference are to be mastered on wide gravel paths during this hike. equipment Absolutely sturdy shoes!
