Description

Reach the starting point Madrisa by chairlift from the bustling little village of Klosters.

Start running and you'll soon leave the ski resort behind and begin climbing up to Rätschenjoch through a lush valley.

The first section is on easy mountain (gravel) roads and well maintained but sometimes steep hiking paths.

There are some impressive views while passing some moon-like calc stone landscapes and these compensate for the hard ascent.

The trail drops behind Madrisa (2826m) and soon leads back up to the ridge which forms the Swiss/Austrian border.

The path is well maintained but loose rocks, big steps and many ups and downs demand energy and concentration (hiking level T3).

Run by the Riedkopf - a well known skitouring peak in winter- and drop down a steep slope towards Partnunsee.

Keep right and tackle the steep section up to a wide, green and high plateau.

At this stage you have covered most of today's elevation and can continue along this relatively easy section before gently climbing into Austria, passing an ancient border checkpoint hut en route.

Pass below the Schijenflue and Wissplatte on a runnable section that finally leads us to the Tilisuna alpine hut, situated above a beautiful mountain lake. More details and booking at www.swisstrailguide.com
