Description
After you have prepared yourself for the hiking route at the car park Panorma overview board, geht´s starts with a moderate gradient.
On a broad path one reaches the beautiful high plateau of the Schneealpe, in a semicircle framed by mountains, populated by alpine cattle with its calming bell ringing.
The path continues to the Windberg with its large summit cross, where we proudly enter ourselves in the summit book.
From here you have a free view on all sides up to the Dachstein, the Waldviertel and the Steiner Alps.
If you keep calm, you can observe many wild animals, such as chamois, marmots or snow hares, as well as bird- and capercaillie, mountain jackdaws, goshawks or sometimes even eagles.
Rare alpine plants like Petergstamm, all kinds of gentian, stone carnations, Kalkalmrausch and even Edelweiss grow here.
Not for nothing do students come here twice a year for field research! At the junction of the Blarergraben with path 401, there are mounds of earth to be seen which testify to prehistoric ore mining up here.
A little later we reach the Lurgbauerhütte ( http://www.lurgikas.at ) with the most eastern alpine dairy in Austria.
Sitting in the "Sonneneckerl" of the hut amidst the peace of the alpine pastures strengthens our inner peace.
Past the snow penguin house ( http://www.schneealpenhaus.com ) we return to our vehicle.
On the way home you should drop by the pond landlord Urani ( http://www.teichwirt-urani.at ) ...
The bathing pond promises cooling down and the Styria beef specialities strengthening body and soul. equipment A real backpack pack makes a lot of things easier: First things first, heavy things.
The drinking bottle (ideal: 1 litre or more) should always be within easy reach.
All things that are often needed such as sunglasses, camera, mobile phone or hiking map belong on top. Emergency equipment including blister plasters belongs in every backpack and clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended! Never forget your raincoat on alpine tours! Helmet! In winter, ski tours and snowshoe hikes require appropriate safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, avalanche shovel and probe)! Always check the avalanche report before the tour (www.lawine-steiermark.at). Search devices for buried people, avalanche shovels and probes can be borrowed from the nature park office for a small fee.
