Description

A short spin out from Grange along the road to Seatoller briefly allows the legs to warm up, before the steep pedal up Honister Pass.

Make the most of it as this is the only rideable climb of the day.

Once at the slate mines, a steep push up brings the first high point of the day and wonderful views of Buttermere and Haystacks; Wainwright's favourite Mountain.

Take a deep breath before setting off on the highly technical, steep rocky descent of Warnscale Bottom, a ride that even the most skilled and brave will find challenging.

It's then straight into a carry up and over Scarth Gap, before a short but steep stepped rocky descent to the isolated valley of Ennerdale.

Already the next climb up over Black Sail Pass looms ahead, again it's a steep hike-a-bike, but with a technical, fun and long descent to Wasdale awaiting as a reward.

After no doubt a quick refreshment in the Wasdale Head Inn, the final gruelling climb up to Styhead Pass must be tackled, but the last descent to Stockley Bridge and Seathwaite will leave you planning when to come back and repeat the route! Save this for good weather when the trails are dry and the views will take your mind off the climbs.
