Description

From the chair lift, you first walk comfortably along the Güterweg in some serpentines to the mountain inn Biberg.

From here continue uphill and after about 300 metres turn left and follow a narrower forest path uphill on the right.

We continue over the Weikersbacher Kopf, always along the ridge on the Saalachtaler Höhenweg.

Shortly before Durchenkopf, the Alpenrosenweg branches off to the right (signposted, mark 77).

The path now leads slightly uphill, mostly along the forest line, through a wonderful dwarf shrub heathland below the Haiderbergkogel and along the Sausteige.

From May to July the magnificent alpine roses bloom here, a rhododendron species native to the mountains of Europe.

But also later in the year botanically interested people will enjoy the diverse flora, botanically less interested people will definitely enjoy the lush blueberry bushes.

Above the Gstallneralm you reach the idyllic alpine meadows on the southern flank of the Sausteige and hike over them, sometimes steeper, sometimes flatter, to the scenic highlight of the tour.

Via the hut trail (marker 11) you now follow the ridge over the Haderbergkogel and the Durchenkopf back to the starting point.

Always in view are the mighty Leoganger Steinberge with their highest peak, the 2634 meter high Birnhorn and the characteristic rock stratification.

Some of the views in the west extend as far as the Wilder Kaiser.

A variation is possible here by walking northwest below the Saalachtaler Höhenweg along the slope (mark 773).

Now the Gasthof Biberg invites you to stop for a bite to eat and the crowning finale of the tour is the descent on the 1.6 km long summer toboggan run back to the car park. equipment *Hiking equipment:* sturdy shoes, fleece jacket or sweater, rain protection, sunglasses, sun cream, sun protection for the head, bandages (plaster), hiking map, mobile phone, sufficient liquid, hiking poles.
