From Schladming-Rohrmoos this stage of the hiking route "From glacier to wine" leads right into the heart of the Schladminger Tauern to the Giglachseen. The tour is made easier by the ascent with the Gipfelbahn Hochwurzen from Rohrmoos to the Hochwurzenhütte (the ascent is free with the Sommercard ( http://www.sommercard.info )). The destination of the tour is the Giglachsee with the Ignaz Mattis hut and as an alternative, a few hundred meters west of it, the Giglachsee hut. The two mountain lakes, the Obere Giglachsee and its much larger neighbour, the Untere Giglachsee, lie at the foot of the Lungauer Kalkspitze and the Steirische Kalkspitze in the middle of the Tauern mountains.

Description

The Schladminger Tauern are not only one of the most beautiful hiking areas in the Alpine region, but also surprise visitors underground with enormous treasures that have been of great economic importance to the former mining town of Schladming for centuries.

Copper, silver, lead, zinc, cobalt and nickel were mined in the Bromriesen, Roßblei, Duisitzkar, Eschachalm, Neualm, Krombach and Krahbergzinken.

Especially the extraction of silver ores made Schladming one of the most important mining locations in Austria in the period from the late 13th to the 15th century.

Today we can follow in the footsteps of the miners in the Bromriesen tunnel.

When exploring the Bromriesenstollen as part of a guided tour, you feel like in an exciting adventure film, where you become the main actor in the light of the lamps.

The mine guides show how dependent the population was on nature and how arduous and dangerous the miners earned their living in those days. equipment A real backpack pack makes a lot of things easier: pack heavy things first.

The water bottle should always be readily available in a side pocket.

All things that are often needed like sunglasses, camera or hiking map belong on top.

Emergency equipment including blister plasters belongs in every rucksack and clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended!
