Description

The castle was first built around 1150 by the Counts of Lechsgemünd from Bavaria.

In 1526 it was massively damaged in the course of a peasant revolt - the date of the reconstruction (1528) was recorded above the archway of the entrance.

From 1881 to 1934, it passed through a series of private owners until it was acquired by Baron Hubert von Pantz, a noble entrepreneur.

Many well-known aristocrats, industrialists and film stars signed the guestbook.

One of them was Queen Juliana, who spent her honeymoon of several weeks at Mittersill Castle in 1937. Like many other places in the Salzburger Land, Schloss Mittersill was not spared by the National Socialist attacks between 1938 and 1945.

After the war it was restituted to the rightful owner Baron von Pantz and subsequently renovated by him.

In 1948, he founded and established the "Sport & Shooting Club" in Mittersill Castle, the most exclusive club in the world at the time.

As a result, it again became the target of the international jet set.

Among the enthusiastic guests were the Shah of Persia, the Duke of Windsor, Henry Ford II, Rita Hayworth, Clark Gable, Bob Hope and many others.

In the middle of the 60's this club decided to sell the castle.

In 1967 it went to the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES) to serve as a conference center.

In December 2009 the castle came into Pinzgauer hands for the first time in its history.

Extensive but careful work has been carried out to provide its international guests with the greatest possible comfort.

Thus the castle has developed into a romantic-majestic piece of jewellery, enthroned above Mittersill. equipment Ankle-high mountaineering boots required.
