Description
Hike in the footsteps of Pirmin Zurbriggen and Alberto Tomba - the Alpine skiing professionals who took to these very slopes in the Men's Giant Slalom event between Saas-Fee and the Plattjen mountain station in January 1988 during the Alpine Skiing World Cup. The trail begins at the Plattjen valley station and leads up towards the Felskinnbahn cableway until it reaches a fork in the path at the former finish line of the Men's Giant Slalom.
Following the path as it bears to the left, hikers arrive at Gallenalp and are greeted by a spectacular view of Saas-Fee's meadows and the majestic peaks of the Mischabel massif.
The forest on the right is a protected wildlife area, and, if they are quiet, hikers may well catch a glimpse of one of the many wild animals that live here. The trail then continues slightly uphill until it reaches Berghaus Plattjen - the oldest mountain hut in the Saas Valley.
From there it is only a hop, skip and a jump to the Plattjen moutain station, where hikers can either take a gondola lift back down to Saas-Fee or set off on another hiking trail.
There is also a wonderful view of the Saas Valley and the 4,000-metre peaks on the valley's eastern side. #Note(s)# Pay attention to the cableway timetable. *¶ So lake ¶ Saas-Fee/Saas Valley Tourism Obere Dorfstrasse 2 3906 Saas-Fee Phone: +41 (0)27 958 18 58 E-mail: info@saas-fee.ch Homepage: www.saas-fee.ch Saastal mountain railways AG Panoramic road 5 3906 Saas-Fee Phone: +41 (0)27 958 11 00 E-mail: bergbahnen@saas-fee.ch Homepage: www.saas-fee.ch/bergbahnen Berghaus TheDom Vernissage c/o TheDom Hotel **** Village square 2 3906 Saas-Fee Phone: +41 (0)27 958 77 00 E-mail: hotel@thedom.ch Homepage: www.thedom.ch equipment * Good footwear * outdoor clothing * Weather dependent clothing: always carry a waterproof jacket with you. * Headgear * Sun protection * Water bottle * provision/food * Binoculars (optional) * Camera * Hiking poles (optional) * Map/ printout of the trail (click on "Print" to download) * First aid kit
