Description

The Pinzgau walk follows the southern ridges of the grass mountains always in the line of least resistance.

So it comes down to the fact that on 18 kilometres, one only has to climb a good 600 metres in altitude.

But the best thing about the tour is the scenic experience: if in other tours the summit is the highlight that one can never savour long enough, on the Pinzgauer walk one constantly has the feeling to stand at the summit.

Grandiose views of the rugged Steinberge and the Steinerne Meer in the north and the glaciated peaks of the Hohe Tauern in the south accompany you on the entire tour.

But one should not be deceived by the name of the tour: This "walk" requires a little more stamina than the evening round of the block.

However, if the classical tour described above is not enough for you, you can extend your hike by numerous summit ascents and quickly double or triple the number of total height meters. The hike begins comfortably with the ascent in the Schattberg-Express.

From the mountain station, you first descend briefly towards the west summit and pass this on the left, slightly uphill into the Marxtenscharte.

Now you either follow the ridge over the Stemmerkogel and the Saalbachkogel to the Seetörl or bypass these peaks on the west side.

Soon thereafter the highest point of the tour is reached with Klingertörl below the Hochkogel.

From here it goes downhill again shortly before the hiking route turns to the east.

The path leads almost level over the Hochsonnberg along the slopes below the Zirmkogel, the Gernkogel and the Maurerkogel over the Klammscharte and the Rohertörl into the Kesselscharte.

Over the Hahnkopf you reach the Kettingtörl from where the trail finally leads up another 200 metres to the summit of the Schmittenhöhe.

Hopefully this can be reached in time before the last descent of the Schmittenhöhebahn (in high summer 5 p.m., in early summer and autumn 4.30 p.m.), which takes you relaxed down to Zell am See.

Back to Maishofen you can either walk along the promenade or take the half-hourly bus (line 260 or 680). equipment *Hiking equipment:* sturdy shoes, fleece jacket or sweater, rain protection, sunglasses, sun cream, sun protection for the head, bandages (plaster), hiking map, mobile phone, sufficient liquid, hiking poles.
