Analysing terrain data
The Rees-Dart Track is a circular hike around the Earnslaw Massif in Mt Aspiring National Park.
The trail leads through two magnificent valleys formed by glaciers and connected by the alpine Rees saddle.
Accompanied by Keas, the New Zealand mountain parrots, you hike through a fantastic mountain landscape.
A unique highlight is the detour to Cascade Saddle: if one looks up, one sees snow and ice-covered mountains and the pyramid-shaped top of the 3.027 m high Mt Aspiring.
If the view glides down into the Matukituki valley, 1,300 m below, you can see wide meadows, beech forests and a peaceful flowing river.
The view from Cascade Saddle is certainly one of the most impressive in the New Zealand Alps! equipment
