Adaptive Route: The Bend to OZ Castle - Hard (Expressway closed)

Description

Following a mission of enabling "Movement for All," trail developers in Bentonville, Arkansas, have been building to the most progressive universal design standards, creating access for riders of all types and abilities.

Adaptive cyclists are individuals who do not ride traditional two-wheel bikes, often due to a physical challenge such as spinal cord injury or impaired balance. Adaptive cycles combine the latest e-assist bicycle drivetrains with rally car suspension, resulting in amazing three-wheel (or four-wheel) arm- or leg-powered machines that allow their riders to keep pace on any terrain. Accommodating adaptive cycles on trails requires only minor modifications to allow the physical dimensions of the bike to navigate the terrain.

Riders of adaptive cycles are seeking the same level of challenge, speed, and thrill as any cyclist. In Bentonville, everyone on wheels is embraced as a part of the cycling community. Here, the accessibility of an urban trail network combines with world-class singletrack trail construction.

The routes in this Guidebook were curated by the Ozark Adaptive Sports Association (OZASA) using Bentonville-based, expert-level riders for their own adaptive mountain bike program. The routes have been updated for OZASA Adaptive Adventure fall ride in October 2023, and include options ranging from beginner to expert.

Support riders are always highly recommended. Visiting adaptive cyclists can contact OZASA (www.ozasa.org) for the group ride calendar or with questions about current conditions, as trails are continuously being developed.
