The stunning surrounds is just one of the reasons why visitors from near and far flock to Hanging Rock throughout the year. Attracted by its outstanding beauty, as well as abundant wildlife, Hanging Rock feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne City Centre.

It also enjoys something of a reputation amongst the locals. The rumoured hangout of Dan 'Mad Dog' Morgan, an infamous bushranger of the 1800s, it was also the location of the fictional mystery film 'Picnic at Hanging Rock'.

Cult fiction aside, Hanging Rock boasts an impressive history in itself. Six-million year old boulders line the route, and there are a series of impressive free standing granite 'tors' at the peak.

A popular trail, it's an easy one to follow. Simply follow the Summit Walk from the car park as it winds its way up through the bush. While the trail is easy enough, the rocks can be slippery so take care. And while the temptation to climb on the 'tors' is always there, beware: there are some massive drops off the top of the abrupt peak.

Walking along a well-kept trail that’s mostly flat. No obstacles are present.
