The Grampians Peaks Trail Map

This once-in-a-lifetime hiking experience takes hikers through the heart of one of Australia's most spectacular National Parks. A 13 day / 12 night trek, this incredibly challenging trail starts at Mount Zero in the North, then heads South across the most famous summits in the Grampians before finishing in the Dunkeld Township.

Description

A typical itinerary would take in a series of 9-15km hikes throughout the trek, stopping at campgrounds along the way. Halls Gap - itself a popular hiking destination - marks the midway point of the trail, and boasts stunning vistas and good camping.

It goes without saying that this trail is only for experienced hikers. While there are camp grounds and untreated water points along the route, hikers must expect to be self-sufficient at all times, and be comfortable navigating through the bush. Before attempting any hike of this nature it is essential to check local conditions and notify rangers you are attempting the hike.

For those that do tackle the trail, they will be rewarded with some of the most stunning views in Australia. Wildlife is abundant, as is the variety of flora and fauna.

Difficulty

Extreme

Scrambling up mountains and along technical trails with moderate fall exposure. Handholds are necessary to navigate the trail in its entirety, although they are not necessary at all times. Some obstacles can be very large and difficult to navigate, and the grades can often be near-vertical. The challenge of the trail and the steepness of the grade results in very strenuous hiking. Hikes of this difficulty blur the lines between "hiking" and "climbing".

High Exposure

3 out of 4

Some trail sections have exposed ledges or steep ascents/descents where falling could cause serious injury.

Remoteness

4 out of 4

In the high mountains or remote conditions, all individuals must be completely autonomous in every situation.
