The summit ascent to the Predigstuhl requires sure-footedness and a head for heights (do not walk in wet conditions).

Description

In the valley basin north of Hallstätter See, the Goiserer forefathers have created the enchanting cultural landscape that drove the travel writer Benedikt Pillwein to hymnal enthusiasm as early as 1828: "No area can be more beautiful and richer in varied scenes for the Mahler ...". This landscape owes its special charm not least to the spectacular rock faces of the Eternal Wall and the breathtakingly smooth summit wall of the Predigstuhl (which the locals write without a "t") in the northeast of the village. In contrast, the route of the "Goiserer Höhenweg", which runs through the middle of the Eternal Wall, does not originate from erosion but from a blasting troop of the Federal Forests. In 1990, the Goiserer mountain guide Heli Putz created a short but rather exposed practice ferrata in the Eternal Wall and in 1996, together with Gerhard Gangl, he drilled the superbly laid out "Leadership via ferrata" through the rugged walls of the preaching chair. From Bad Goisern railway station we walk into the town centre and on Marktstraße turn left towards Bad Ischl and then next to Hauptstraße briefly to Hotel Lindwurm. Opposite we turn off to the street in the district Posern (Mühlgraben). From there we walk right up to the rustic Rathlucken hut. Turn sharply left here and follow the flat road to the "Goiserer Höhenweg". At the two following junctions we continue straight on until we reach the sky-high cliffs of the Eternal Wall. These are now crossed on the blown out high-level path (two tunnels) - a true passage between heaven and earth! Where you reach the forested upper edge, sharply to the right and uphill on the narrow path no. 245 above the wall, past the Blaschek-Warte. After a short descent (steel cable) to the junction of the cycle path (which leads up from the Berghof Predigstuhl via a secured spot). Here we turn left and through a wooded high valley we reach the steep summit of the Predigstuhl. To the right over damp, but with short ladders and steel ropes secured rock steps to the quite exposed summit. The view to the Dachstein massif is fantastic! Back again and to the right. On a wooden footbridge over a rocky gorge and in serpentines down the very steep eastern slope covered with boulders - past the junction to the "Leadership-Klettersteig". Down on the forest road we go down to the right to the Berghof Predigstuhl. Down a little below the sermon chair, then turn left onto the cart path and in wide bends down to Posern.

Rest stops: Berghof Preaching Chair Ratlucken hut
