30HSOA-#18 Hochfeiler North face Map

This face is at the border between Italy and Austria. There are two ways to access it, one from Italy and one from Austria.

Description

The way from italy, in 2 days by the messner bivouac is the normal way. The way shown here is more direct and doable in one day.

The Hochfeiler is the highest point of the Zillertal which makes it interesting. The last 100m are on a not too difficult but exposed ridge.

This face is interesting I think because its steepness is constant but it is not too long and not exposed. The snow stay good even after some days of warm temperatures, which makes it good in spring. To access the face by this way, the best if to start really early as you are evolving on a glacier exposed east.

The bike is a good idea for the first flat part next to the lake.

Difficulty

Severe

Steep skiing at 38-45 degrees. This requires very good technique and the risk of falling has serious consequences.

Medium Exposure (E2)

2 out of 4

As well as the slope itself, there are some obstacles (such as rock outcrops) which could aggravate injury.

Away from help but easily accessed.
