Journeyman Lodge & Callaghan Valley - T33 East Flank Map

Access from Callaghan Country via a long approach from the valley and accessed via their cross-country trail. Or better yet, stay at the Journeyman Lodge to get multiple days of great skiing in.

Description

Exit the Journeyman lodge and head down through the trees arriving at the beautiful creek and meadow. Take some photos at sunrise! Additionally, this route provides a great view of the lower Journeyman terrain & landscape.

As you cross the creeks you climb through some low angle terrain & through large spread out old-growth. Pay attention to the terrain above and to your left as it can be prone to slide. You are able to avoid this with smart route finding.

Once on 2nd bench, you have some great tree-skiing. Continue up higher on to 3rd bench and you have a low-angle approach to larger terrain. Be mindful of the slopes above.

Once you are up top there is great skiing in all directions. Wide-open bowls for stable days, ridgelines, and fun playful terrain that leads you back to the forest.

Another option is to climb left through the boulder field instead of working your way up to the right. Be mindful of open holes in the early season in the boulder field.

Descents:

There are descents as far as the eye can see. Be smart but enjoy the ride.

Skiers right can take you into some large terrain and beautiful ridges but be mindful of the large bowl and exposure above. Ride the ridge and head back towards the skin track for a great cruise.

Bounce down the boulder fields and through the old growth, which will lead you back towards your skin track for another lap.

If you decide to go skiers right it will lead you over some short steeper faces with some great snow and then down in the large flatter bowl.

Some fun bouncy skiing wide open skiing will lead you to a skiable drainage and large pillow field or if that is not your cup of tea bend skiers rights back into some incredible fall-line and spacious tree skiing which will lead you back to the bottom of your skin track.
