Le Boreon to San Bernolfo Map

The first half of this day is pretty steady, mainly on snow covered roads and tracks leading to the little ski resort of Isola 2000. You could split the day here if you wanted. Leaving the gite take the road uphill, which may be on foot to start with. We only walked a few km before the ploughs had stopped road clearing, so we could start skinning. There are some hairpins you can cut by taking more direct and steeper variants if you like, leading to the Col Salese at just over 2000m. Descend slightly the far side, looking out for the track which leads off the main one, to the R. Follow this very gently uphill, flat and occasionally slightly downhill. At only one point does it traverse very steep ground, facing W, but hopefully it won’t be too banked out. It then rises up and over an easy col and rapidly into the Isola lift system. Then you skin up the piste and over the Col de Lombardy (a road col closed in winter). The far side you descend a really long, low angled and deserted valley, before you take a L up a steeper short slope, to the deserted monastery of Sant'Anna di Vinadio. It opens up again here, before a shorter climb to the Passo di Tesina at 2400m. The descent the far side is a delight - steep and slightly confusing terrain down a steep sided wooded valley, to the hamlet of Callieri at 1450m, followed by an easy skin up to the hamlet of San Bernolfo at 1680m. Here we stayed at an amazing gite, run by a very welcoming and friendly man called Beppe and well worth a visit. http://rifugiodahu.com/
