Tetnuldi Steep Lines and Adishi Map

The tour from Tetnuldi ski resort down to Adishi village is a relatively well-known moderate classic. It only requires a short bit of skinning and a provides a long run down to an authentic Svanetian village. This version of the tour puts in some serious skiing to make the day full. Start at the last lift, hike to the cross and traverse the long slope on your right. Usually a track is in place. Ascend the first prominent couloir - that is already full avalanche-terrain, so good stability is needed. Just before reaching the top, traverse hard right, keeping more or less your elevation. This is rocky and exposed terrain - again, excellent stability is required. You will reach the second couloir (you can ascend that as well instead of the traverse). Work your way up to reach a small summit. Now it's skiing time. A steep east-facing slope drops to the other side. This is an exposed convex face - check stability and make sure you are on top of things. Short and sweet run brings to a a bowl, that you can ski down until it visibly drops. Do not ski beyond this point! Put the skins back on, and ascent the bowl. Reascend the ridge to the summit you just came from. From the summit you can ski straight down, an awesome run on its own. At the bottom, cut left to gain the ridge the takes you to a long and mellow ride to the village of Adishi. The traverse to the ridge crosses potential avalanche slopes.

Description

Tips: 1) The slopes from and to the resort and down to Adishi are southern/solar slopes - be mindful about strong solar radiation in the afternoon. 2) Arrange a driver in Tetnuldi ski resort to pick you up. Walking back is a loooong way! 3) Go with a guide who knows the route and can arrange lunch in an authentic guest house in Adishi. The Kubdari and Khachapuri you will eat there may be the best on your entire Svaneti trip. 4) Check with the guides at the Georgian Guide Office in Mestia about conditions. This tour goes through some serious avalanche terrain.
