A beautiful Black Forest route with a castle, dense forests, lush meadows, and quintessential Germanic towns.
Mountain Biking Moderate
In the heart of the Black Forest in Germany is the beautiful Kinzig Valley. This cross country route takes you from the small town of Hausach to another small, pretty town of Haslach—both quintessential Germanic towns—via stunning forest and meadow trails.
Soon after departing you'll get the chance to ride past the medieval, ruined hill castle named Husen Castle. This route showcases why the Black Forest is famed for stunning scenery, dense forests, and gorgeous, lush green meadows.
The gradient is never particularly steep, but there is a good amount of gentle undulation. The terrain is mostly smooth forest trail with stones and forest debris, and the occasional short section of doubletrack.
There is nothing particularly technical or skills-challenging on this route. The length and undulation make it physically challenge, which beginners may find a bit of difficult, but with plenty of beautiful places to stop to admire the views it is so worthwhile to try.
The picturesque return trail takes you along the Kinzig River from which the valley takes its name.
Stopping in either town for a bite to eat, coffee, and ice cream is recommended. With many Italians settling early here you are guaranteed great ice cream!
Moderate
Mostly stable trail tread with some variability, with unavoidable obstacles 8in/20cm tall or less. Other obstacles such as rock gullies and steep sections may exist. Ideal for lower intermediate riders.
