Burfell Chute Loop Map

All the couloir lines on this tour face south and offer great spring skiing as the snow softens. Start from the west tunnel entrance in the Isafjordur area and skin up the valley. The impressive cone of Burfell reveals itself as you gain elevation. Initially follow the power lines north before breaking off north eastwards to the small col that provides access to the Midfell basin and then traverse high towards the obvious couloir that provides booting to the east ridge of Geirsteinshvilftarfjall. Skins can be applied to ski to the summit from the top of the couloir. Fantastic views out to sea across from here. Retrace your route and descend the short couloir which is lots of fun and never too steep. (max 40 degrees). Many variations are available from here including an ascent of Burfell itself via its south flank. Fall line skiing from the Midfell col to the back to the car gives a long excellent ski in stunning surroundings.
