Hike in the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites: Malga ra Stua and Rifugio Biella Map

This hike is ideal to see the variety of landscapes and habitats that compose the Ampezzo Dolomites Natural Park. The area is home to several animals, including owls and chamois, and to the rare endemic plant Sempervivum dolomiticum, symbol of the Natural Park.

Description

From the Information Point of the Natural Park take the jeep service to the starting point or directly to Malga ra Stua.

As you walk up, you will see the Boite river running with some waterfalls on your left, until you reach Ra Stua, where the forest clears to reveal a beautiful pasture and the cozy cottage makes for an ideal refreshment place.

Continue on trail n° 6 between trees and meadows and meet the cows that are often times pasturing here. When the trail splits, keep the right and continue on n. 6: you are now in Cianpo de Cros, where the Boite, Cortina’s river, has its source. Keep walking and traverse the Val Salata until Rifugo Senes. From here, take trail n. 6A: the landscapes from here becomes more rocky and barren and you will walk under the south wall of the Croda del Beco until you reach Rifugio Biella, at 2,327 meters, a mountain hut serving hearty food. Take trail n° 26 to walk down alongside three Alpine lakes: Lago Gran de Foses, Lago Pizo and Lago de ra Remeda Roses. You will link back to trail n. 6 at Cianpo de Cros, from where you can go back to Malga ra Stua and the parking lot.

By car - To reach the starting point, drive along the SS 51 Alemagna road northwards for about 10 minutes, until you reach the information point of the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites in the area of Fiames.

By bus and jeep service - To reach the starting point by bus, take city bus n° 1 from Cortina’s bus station and ask to get off in Fiames, at the information point of the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites.
