Along this stretch of the hike, you will be confronted with the stark contrast between the beauty of nature and the uglier side of humankind. You pass many memorials and gravestones for the battles and massacres that took place in these enchanting mountain landscapes. Walk in the footsteps of Alpini soldiers along old military roads, and pass many relics from both WWI and WW2, including the Martyrs of the Turchino Memorial which commemorates the political prisoners massacred in 1944. A lot of the area is barren of vegetation, creating eerie lunar landscapes. You will then pass the popular mountaineering town Punta Martin and then continue on to the glistening Gorzente Lakes and Bocchetta Pass. From Bocchetta Pass, if you look in the direction of the ocean, you will see the bright lights of Genova in the distance. Finish this stage in the small town of Creto. Sources
