Valcigolera Freeride Run Map

San Martino di Castrozza skiing area is developed on two different areas: one is the Rosetta - straight into the Dolomites and the other one is Alpe Tognola - on the opposite side. The Rosetta side is well known for its nice tours and steep lines - but Tognola has some nice freeride lines to offer too, especially when visibility is not that good, avalanche danger is too high or the Rosetta cableway is not running: this is the case of the Valcigolera valley.

Description

The Valcigolera is the most accessible freeride line from the resort: starting from the parking lot, a couple of lifts will lead you straight at the entrance of the line, where you can either decide to drop into the steeper open face at the top or skip that and go for a more mellow ride starting from the forest below. The wide valley of Valcigolera is indeed practically all skiable on all expositions and easy to access from the resort. It is, however, necessary -at a minimum - to assess the snowpack as there are steep slopes, especially when you decide to drop from the very top of this line.

The forest is the most chosen option on a snowy day: its exposition makes it always well covered and the terrain won’t disappoint the playful skiers too: small drops and tiny pillows are everywhere. In this lower section - orientation skills and ability to read the terrain are really useful in order to avoid ending up in annoying situation, far away from the forest road which brings you back to the bottom of the gondola.
