Review Peak Map

Review Peak is one of the more remote ski tours in a place famous for remote locations. Just getting to the area is a challenge all on its own. The way I accessed this zone was via following the Rakia River valley leaving via Glenfalloch station. After getting the okay to leave my car there I started following an old road west before crossing Lake Stream. In a trip filled with cruxes this crossing is one of them as the water is fast, thigh deep and silty glacial water, proceed with caution. Once on the other side it is once again time to hike up the Rakia Valley for well over 10 kilometres of semi easy flats. Once near Mein Knob you can find an old trail that takes you over the Glenfalloch route and down to the Lyell Hut.

Description

From the Lyell Hut make your way up to southern edge of the lake and keep following the valley onto the glacier. What starts as rocks at first becomes ice a few kilometres later. Just before the final bowl you will see an easily climbable route on the lookers right which brings you up to Mccoy Col. This is the perfect spot to set up camp and take in views of the great divide.

Once rested make your way east up the western ridge of Review Peak. While this is a relatively easy climb it should be done with crampons making your way up to the summit. Standing up top find a route down to the Mccoy glacier where you can descend as far as you are willing to climb back up. Skin back up to Mccoy Col where your tent is and prepare for the long exit ahead. Making your way back down just follow your original assent. Going back to the car you can break this trip up as there are numerous huts along the way.

For anyone who is interest in this ski tour I must reiterate that this approach is a long one.
