Wairere Falls Track Map

The Wairere Falls track is a popular hiking trail located in the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park in New Zealand. The track takes you to the Wairere Falls, which is the highest waterfall in the North Island at over 150 meters tall.

Description

The hike to Wairere Falls starts at the Wairere Falls car park at the end of Goodwin Road. From the car park, the track follows a well-marked and maintained trail through the forest with a gentle incline for the first part of the hike. Along the way, you'll pass through groves of tall kauri trees, ferns, and other native vegetation and wildlife.

As you continue on the trail, the incline becomes steeper and you'll start to gain elevation. The track is mostly flat, with some rocky and muddy sections in places. Along the way, you'll pass through a tunnel of kamahi trees and come across a series of steps that lead up to a lookout point with views of the surrounding forest and the Waitākere Ranges.

The final stretch of the hike to Wairere Falls is the steepest, with a series of steps and a metal ladder leading up to the falls. At the top, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the falls, which cascade down the rock face in a series of steps.

The hike to the Wairere Falls is a 5km out-and-back trail (allow 2-3 hours), depending on your fitness level and the pace at which you hike. The trail is suitable for most people with a moderate level of fitness, but it is not recommended for young children or those with mobility issues.

When you reach the Wairere Falls, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the falls and the surrounding landscape. You can stand at the base of the falls and feel the mist on your face, or take a moment to rest and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

After taking in the sights and sounds of the falls, you'll retrace your steps back to the car park to complete the hike. The Wairere Falls track is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers, and is a great way to experience the beauty and diversity of the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park.
