Description
Cross the Urubamba river using the Inka suspension bridge at the entrance to the village and head South along agricultural terraces facing the Urubamba River. There is a small and well preserved Inka garrison that guarded the access to the village from upstream. The approach to Pachar is on an Imperial Inka Trail (Qhapaq Ñan), with well preserved agricultural terraces, which are farmed to this day using traditional methods. Once in Pachar you can treat yourself to a cold beer at the micro brewery Cervecería del Valle.
On your return trip we recommend you cycle past the train station in Ollantaytambo and head uphill along a small side road which will lead you straight to the Inka Fortress.
The climb back up to Muñaypata is the only strenuous bit of your ride.
