Excellent weather is key - prepare to leave at 4:00 AM and spend 12-14 hours in the mountains. Start at the entrance to the national park in Kuźnice and march up to the Black Gąsienicowy Ponad at your fastest comfortable pace. From there try and ascend via the trail to the Zawrat pass to reach it around 9:00 AM and have breakfast there. The scramble begins from there and the entire Orla Perć secured trail requires a lot of stamina and good head for heights as you will be ascending and descending continously while keeping on the ridge or closely beneath it, passing from the northern to the southern side while at it. Although this is not a via ferrata, via ferrata kit and harness can be used on sections secured by chains. Helmet and gloves are a security must as the threat of falling stones is real and the trail gets very crowded during the summer holidays (end of June - end of August). There are multiple escape routes allowing you to go down on either side of the ridge. The first section (Zawrat - Kozi Wierch) is one direction only. This is the most demanding route in the Polish High Tatras and thus very popular.
