Easy Gully Map

Easy Gully is one of the few ways to access the bowl of Coire an Lochain, and for this reason, you’re usually guaranteed to get fresh tracks when you’re out of the gully and into this remote bowl!

Description

Starting from the Ski Patrol hut at the top of the Summit Button, walk/skate in a south westerly direction for around 150 metres to reach the top of Easy Gully, which is marked by a large opening that is usually flanked by some pretty massive cornices around the whole rim! It's sometimes split into 2 separate gullies during lean/early seasons.

This gully is frequently used by climbers as a descent path to access the steep ice/mixed winter climbs on the cliffs that flank the Coire rim, meaning that there’s usually a path cut/stamped out by climbers which should give you a way through if the cornices are presenting a problem. Saying that, climbers should always have right of way in this couloir, so make intentions clear before dropping in on top of them!

After passing the cornice (usually best entered on the skier’s left hand side), you’re greeted with a fairly steep pitch that soon tapers out into a narrow choke before spitting you out onto the stunning Coire an Lochain that you most certainly will have all to yourself down to the Coire floor.

Once on the Coire floor, make a skier’s right hand turn before crossing the burn to exit to Coire to then reach the base of the Braveheart chairlift (which will hopefully be open for you!).

Please be aware that you will require ski touring equipment (and thus a short skin/walk back to Rob Roy’s Return), if Braveheart Chairlift cannot open due to weather conditions or a low snow level.

Difficulty
