Hiking Extreme
Iconic munro due to the difficulty of reaching its summit. The route is considered a scramble but the pinnacle on top is usually climbed with ropes and with an abseil off the back of the pinnacle. The Inaccessible Pinnacle is an exposed but manageable climb only 8m heigher than the flatter peak! It can be up & downclimbed without ropes but the exposure is intimdating. For the abseil you need 36m rope at least. Can be protected/anchored with slings if needed. There is a permanent chain on the bolster stone to abseil off down the back. Can get busy with slow numerous guided tours hence can start early or bivi before it to get there first light and avoid congestion. Avoid the bank holiday last weekend of May! Simple climb except for a crux where you move right across from left over to right side and ascend the arete to the top.
Extreme
Scrambling up mountains and along technical trails with moderate fall exposure. Handholds are necessary to navigate the trail in its entirety, although they are not necessary at all times. Some obstacles can be very large and difficult to navigate, and the grades can often be near-vertical. The challenge of the trail and the steepness of the grade results in very strenuous hiking. Hikes of this difficulty blur the lines between "hiking" and "climbing".
