Blue Ridge Trail Out-and-Back Map

If you've ever stared at a mountain ridge and wished you could hike the entire length of it, well you're in luck, because you'll get to do exactly that on the Blue Ridge Trail! You'll get to enjoy this epic ridgeline traverse both directions on this 15.5-mile out-and-back hike.

Description

As you might imagine, none of the mileage will come easily: the hike climbs steeply to gain the ridge and then once there, it is constantly climbing or descending through rugged terrain as it follows the spine of the mountain range. Over its 15.5-mile distance, this hike gains over 4,000 feet of vertical. And remember: you need to turn around and retrace your steps to get back to where you began.

Difficulty

Severe

Hiking challenging trails where simple scrambling, with the occasional use of the hands, is a distinct possibility. The trails are often filled with all manner of obstacles both small and large, and the hills are very steep. Obstacles and challenges are often unexpected and can be unpredictable.
