To make the most of the groomed fat bike trails near Snodgrass Road, begin by pedaling up the heavily-used road from the obvious trailhead. While portions of the climb can be steep at times, the frequent traffic helps keep the road well-packed. As you climb, keep an eye out for the blue signs pointing to Teddy’s Trail to the right.

Teddy’s is a short but sweet groomed loop that you may just have to ride a few times! The first section, if pedaling clockwise, is a true gem—fat biking groomed trail through a gorgeous aspen grove is a surreal experience! As you leave the aspens, a fast, flowy descent drops you into an open meadow. Savor the views of the Gothic Valley and Mount Crested Butte as you loop back around, finishing the loop with a stiff climb.

Drop back down Snodgrass Road a few hundred yards, and look for the drop-in to the North Village trails on the right-hand side, after the cabin and near the fence line. This steep descent will drop you right into the stacked loops of North Village.

The North Village trails served as the main venue for Fat Bike Worlds for the past several years. While the race venue is moving to a different zone for 2020, CBMBA is still grooming North Village for recreational fat biking.

Before dropping off the ridge and into the bowl, take a minute to evaluate the conditions. Since the groomed trails below you are located in a wide-open meadow, the trails frequently drift shut if the wind has been high and it’s been a while since the last grooming. If the conditions don’t look promising, it may be best to skip North Village. But on the other hand, if the conditions look bomber, then drop in and get ready to rip!

North Village features a series of stacked loops that can create routes ranging in length from 1.1 to 4.5 miles. The combined Teddy’s Trail and North Village route shown here only follows the exterior of the North Village loops, but you can also choose to add some interior loops for additional mileage.

Once you’re done pedaling around this idyllic alpine meadow, either climb up to the paved road as mapped here, or challenge yourself by pedaling back up the steep climb to regain Snodgrass Road.
